United in Christ

Devotional

In a world that seems increasingly fractured, Jesus offers a radical alternative: unity. Not a superficial agreement that glosses over differences, but a deep, spiritual oneness rooted in Him. This unity transcends our natural divisions and reflects the very nature of God. Think about how scattered we can be in our daily lives—each person focused on their own priorities, challenges, and goals. We’re like those football players in warm-up, each doing their own thing. But when the quarterback steps onto the field and calls the team together, something changes. Individual agendas give way to a common purpose. Jesus is our quarterback, calling us into unity with Him and with each other. He doesn’t just suggest this unity—He prayed fervently for it. In John 17, we find Jesus’ heartfelt prayer for all believers, including those who would come to faith through the disciples’ testimony. That’s us! Jesus was thinking of you and me when He prayed these words. This unity isn’t about erasing our uniqueness or forcing agreement on every issue. Rather, it’s about recognizing that what binds us together—Christ’s love and sacrifice—is infinitely greater than what separates us. When we grasp this truth, we begin to see fellow believers not as competitors or opponents, but as teammates in God’s grand purpose.

Bible Verse

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” – John 17:20-21

Reflection Question

In what areas of your life do you find yourself acting independently rather than seeking unity with other believers? How might embracing unity change your approach to these situations?

Quote

“Jesus prays for you today, prays for me, prays for everyone around us. And when that quarterback comes out on the field and caused the play, we are united to move forward in him what holds you together today?”

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for me even before I came to believe in You. Help me to value the unity You desire for Your church. Show me where I’ve prioritized my own agenda over our shared purpose in You. Draw me closer to You and to my brothers and sisters in faith. Amen.
