The True Meaning of Hosanna

Devotional

When the crowds shouted ‘Hosanna,’ they were literally crying out ‘Lord, save us!’ But their understanding of salvation was limited to their immediate circumstances. They wanted freedom from Roman oppression, economic hardship, and social difficulties. Yet Jesus came to offer a deeper, more lasting salvation – one that addresses our fundamental need for reconciliation with God. He came to save us not just from temporary troubles but from sin and death itself. His salvation extends far beyond our earthly existence into eternity. When we cry out ‘Lord, save us’ today, are we seeking temporary relief or eternal redemption?

Bible Verse

“The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!'” – Matthew 21:9
